ID: 6337 QUALIFICATIONS Valid Arizona Department of Education
School Counselor, PreK-12 certificate. Degree required in relevant
field of study. Prior relevant work experience. Have knowledge,
skill and or experience in the implementation of Positive Behavior
Intervention Supports (PBIS) strategies or be willing to receive
training in those strategies. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Strong organizational and record-keeping skills. Ability to
communicate effectively verbally and in writing Ability to follow
written and/or verbal instructions. Ability to demonstrate
interpersonal and problem-solving skills Ability to apply common
sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a
variety of situations. Ability to work cooperatively and
courteously with staff, students, parents, and community members.
Utilize, with fidelity, the District Positive Behavior Intervention
Support (PBIS) program at the building level. Ability to operate
computer equipment for email communications, word processing, data
management, and other assigned tasks as related to the position.
Ability to understand and maintain students' and parents' rights to
confidentiality and not violate those rights; nor discuss students
in inappropriate places or with anyone not in direct contact with
such individual students. Ensure information obtained through the
course of duties associated with this position, is held in the
highest of confidentiality. Perform all duties in accordance with
Federal and State laws, district procedures, and Board policies,
including mandatory reporting procedures. Disclaimer: The following

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Implement the district adopted
Comprehensive Competency Based Guidance Curriculum (CCBG). Provide
classroom and small group developmental activities. (e.g.,
self-esteem, problem-solving, decision making) Coordinate and
facilitate the Child Study Team and the Multi Disciplinary
Conference Team (MDC). Facilitate the introduction of students to
the school community. Help students evaluate career interests and
choices. Provide counseling for children on an individual basis to
remediate behavioral, academic, and personal student concerns. Help
to maintain student records and protect their confidentiality.
Promote parents' understanding of academic progress, behavior,
growth, and development issues. Help resolve student-teacher
conflicts. Provide in-service training as needed. Consult about
class interaction, student needs, and staff relationships. Aid in
the interpretation of test results to students, parents and
teachers. Take an active role in interpreting the school's
objectives to students, parents and the community at large. Work
closely with the school nurse in reporting cases of suspected child
abuse. Facilitate special interest programs as needed, such as
parenting groups and/or support groups. Other duties as may be
assigned by the site administrator and/or the Director of
Exceptional Student Services. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands
described here are representative of those that must be met by an
employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the

the duties of this job, the employee is required to reach with
hands and arms, sit, stand, walk, stoop, and bend as necessary. The
employee may lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects

up to 20 pounds. The employee will read correspondence and computer
screens, and use the telephone. WORK ENVIRONMENT Indoor school
building and classroom environment and ability to work outdoors
during outdoor student activities. The noise level in the work
environment is generally moderate and may become excessively noisy
at times. Will have contact with students, staff and the public.
Indoor office environment. This position regularly works indoors.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS The School Counselor reports to the
site administrator. The School Counselor will interact
cooperatively with all other staff positions. All elements of good
